If you haven't checked out the new Ellsworth Public Library please stop by and see this beautiful space. This project has been years in the making and wouldn't have been possible without the support of so many community members. We are proud of the contributions of our staff and parents club. The display as a whole is a great reminder how the generosity of our community continues to move us ahead.

February 2023 Lunch Menu
School districts around our area of the state have had to make a number of adjustments to school calendars and snow day models with the large number of snow days already this year. To this date we have had 8 school days affected by weather leading to cancellations of school or partial days. As communicated in an earlier email, our school calendar had 2 days already built in that are now student contact days. With our latest snow day last week we have also transitioned our scheduled teacher inservice day of Monday, February 20th to a day of school for all students and staff. As an added measure to address further snow days, we are also moving to a “Distance Learning Model” when possible for inclement weather disruptions. Middle School and High School students will be utilizing their chromebooks to log on for the day while Elementary students will be provided with packets for the day. This is a model being utilized by many districts who have chosen to move to Distance Learning days. I want to make it clear that we do not see this option as providing the same educational quality as in-person instruction but the level of impact this winter is having on our school calendar has made this the best option moving forward in order to provide us with the greatest ability to avoid added days in June and disruptions to our summer school program. We will also be adjusting our daily schedule slightly to ensure that we meet the state required minutes of instruction. Beginning on Monday February 6th, the school day will begin 5 minutes earlier (8:00 am) in all buildings. Morning bus pick up times will remain the same. These added minutes, along with the move to the “Distance Learning” days will provide us with the needed minutes for all buildings as mandated. Below is a summary of school schedule and calendar changes that we are making moving forward: ● Monday, February 6th - School start time will move to 8:00 am. ○ Morning bus pick up times will remain the same. ● Monday, February 20th - School Day for All Students (Was a Teacher Inservice Day) ● Monday, April 10th - School Day for All Students (Built in Snow Day on Calendar) ● Friday, June 2nd - School Day for All Students (Built in Snow Day on Calendar) ● Distance Learning Days - (Details coming for each building level by email on January 27th) Please look for the emails coming to all parents with the Distance Learning day schedules and activities from each building level tomorrow (January 27th). Thank you for all your continued support and flexibility this year! Barry Cain Superintendent

On Friday, January 20, members of the Ellsworth American Legion Post 204 presented a check to Ellsworth Food Director Dee Rasmussion in the amount of $1,200. The money is to be used to help students that may be struggling to maintain a positive balance in their lunch accounts. Ms. Rasmusson would like to extend a huge Thank you to the American Legion!!! Ms. Rasmusson stated, “We use the donations for families that are having a hard time paying for their child's or children's lunch account. We have a lot of families in our district that are struggling with paying for their meals. They are either on the border line of not getting the free/reduced meals or have other financial issues that they are struggling with. So we try to help out these families and most of them are very appreciative and emotional when we help them out. Times are really tough right now and we want to help those that are trying so hard to pay for meals. This is so important that we help with the food insecurity in our community. Thank you again for donating and making life a little easier for those that need it.”

Tickets are still available. You have been invited to be a passenger on the Orient Express. The passenger manifest includes a variety of rich, influential individuals from the upper echelons of Europe (and possibly some spies), as well as members of the train’s crew. Everyone is expecting a luxurious train ride replete with dinner and drinks —they aren’t expecting foul weather, a dastardly deed, and getting involved in an international incident! Join us for this interactive murder mystery dinner event. Piece together clues over an Italian buffet dinner as you join famed detective Pardot in solving the crime. Guests are encouraged to dress with the theme! Your ticket includes admission, dinner, and an exciting ride. Bring cash to pay extra bribes (for hints) to help you in the investigation. Event proceeds benefit the Ellsworth Community School District Foundation. Bribes support the Ellsworth High School Drama Department. Tickets can be purchases here: https://givebutter.com/DAuUmK

Volunteers are still needed for this fun and interactive event for EHS seniors. On Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 (snow makeup day is February 17th) approximately 130 Ellsworth High School students will participate in our annual “Reality Check!” event. This interactive financial reality simulation helps students get a feel for life on their own. At the event, students are given a simulated paycheck with a monthly wage and are randomly assigned marital status, parenthood, and credit card debt. After going to “Uncle Sam,” who deducts taxes from their gross income, students must complete a number of financial transactions to make it through a typical month. They purchase housing, utilities, insurance, groceries, cars, childcare, gasoline, and more from booths staffed by volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering please fill out this google form and our coordinator will be in touch with you. A background check is required for all volunteers. https://forms.gle/dvYbNBUA9myymxGTA If you have any questions please reach out to Buena Farrell at farrellb@ellsworth.k12.wi.us
