Tractor Safety
The Tractor Safety course for 2023 in Pierce County will be offered this spring for youths 13-15 years of age. The Federal Child Labor Law, established in 1970 states that a person under the age of 16 cannot be employed for driving a tractor on farms not operated by their parents or guardians until they have completed a tractor safety course and become certified. Participants must be 14 years of age to receive this federal certification on their fourteenth birthday. Wisconsin Act 455 prohibits any child under the age of 16 to operate a farm tractor or self-propelled implement of husbandry on the highway unless the child had complete tractor safety certification. Wisconsin Act 178 establishes a minimum age limit of 12 to enroll for this type of certification. The students must attend all classes and pass the course to receive certification. The course teaches youth about tractors and farm machinery. They learn how to operate the machines safely. They also learn about safety features connected with operation and use of machines. The course includes classroom and practical instruction and the youth are tested on knowledge and operation of a tractor. Students who enroll are required to have a Social Security number before they can be certified. Application forms for Social Security numbers are available at banks and post offices.

LUNCH MENU UPDATE
It's great to see people taking the initiative to prioritize their mental health. Here are some tips for the activities for each day of the week:
Mindful Monday: Practicing mindfulness can be a great way to reduce stress and increase focus. One simple mindfulness exercise to try is to find a quiet place to sit, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Try to clear your mind and simply observe your breath moving in and out of your body. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to your breath. You can do this exercise for as little as 5 minutes or as long as 30 minutes.
Tech-free Tuesday: It's important to be aware of the impact that social media and other forms of technology can have on our mental health. Consider taking a break from social media and other electronic devices for a few hours or even the whole day. Use this time to connect with loved ones, engage in a hobby, or spend time in nature.
Walk on Wednesday: Exercise is a great way to boost your mood and reduce stress. If you don't have a lot of time, even a 15-minute walk can help. Consider taking a walk during your lunch break or after dinner. You could also try incorporating walking into your daily routine by parking further away from your destination or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
We hope these tips are helpful and that you have a great Mental Health Month!
If you need help or resources please reach out to our district mental health coordinator Nancy.

The Ellsworth School District has been awarded a grant to support student programs and services before and after school. 🏫📚 This grant will run through September 2024, and we are thrilled to offer the Extended Experience program to our students! 🌟✨
The primary goal of this grant is to provide programming to close the achievement, social, emotional, and mental health gaps caused by the pandemic. We believe that every student deserves access to resources and opportunities that will help them succeed, and this grant will help make that possible.
The grant focuses on literacy, outdoor education, experiences (through Red Wing ELC), and academic tutoring. We are excited to offer a wide range of fun and engaging clubs, including science, photography, puzzle club, zine club, book club, reading, tutoring, cooking, and so much more! 📖🧩🍴
We are grateful for this opportunity to support our students and help them thrive. Thank you to everyone who made this grant possible, and we can't wait to see what our students will achieve through the Extended Experience program! 🤩👏
For questions on this program, please reach out to:
