Dressing for Cold Weather In the cold weather months, we utilize outdoor recess for our students (K-8) when possible and conditions permit. To ensure your child's comfort, please plan for outdoor recess when preparing or assisting with your child's clothing and outerwear selections each day. Hats, coats, gloves and boots/proper footwear are encouraged to be sent to school with your child throughout the cold weather months. Students preferring to wear shorts year round should be dressed appropriately for the weather and consider long pants. Please apply the above information during the cold weather months for when your child gets on and off the bus and waits for the bus each day. The handy infographic below, shared by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration via the National Weather Service, shows the layers and type of dress that should be worn during cold weather conditions.

On 10/7/22 the sophomore class participated in the Respect Retreat that Youth Frontiers facilitated, along with approximately 22 junior and senior mentors. It was a day full of high-energy, activities, presentations, music, small group discussions, sharing and follow-up. It was really impactful to see some of the students be vulnerable and speak up with their peers around the "campfire" setting at the end of the day to share their experiences thus far in high school. Some key learning objectives of the Respect Retreat are to: Help students realize they matter, others matter and what they do matters. Understand that disrespectful behavior is harmful and engage bystanders to stand up. Identify ways to improve the culture of respect in your school and community. We sincerely appreciate the Ellsworth Community School District Foundation for their continued support and the Excell Grant, without their generous support and continued advocacy for this program this day would not be possible for our students.
